The Phoenix Music Club organises regular folk and roots events in Sheffield, including music, song, dance and spoken-word performances.
Our current season of events is taking place at the Companion's Club in Pitsmoor. Why not take a look at what's on?
STOP PRESS: Autumn season cancelled
Wednesday 8 Oct 2008We are very sorry to have to announce that there will be *no* Phoenix events this autumn. We had a great season planned for you all, but unfortunately have just received notice that our venue, the Companion's Club, has had to close.
We are working on an alternative strategy, but it may be a while. Please stick with us!
If you loved our summer events, then why not check out GondwanaSound for more and similar fun to keep your spirits up until Phoenix returns...
Also, renowned storyteller Simon Heywood, who regailed us all in July with his energetic telling of Jack the Giant Killer, is back in Sheffield this month together with Nick Hennessey and The Middle Yard. You can catch them at the Library Theatre, Friday 24 October, 2008 at 7.30pm as part of Off the Shelf Literature Festival.
Summer Season over, but Autumn is looming...
Monday 7 Jul 2008Thanks to all who contributed to our two opening events on June 5th and July 3rd - whether you were performing, volunteering or visiting. In particular, warm thanks go to Seize the Day, the Grinders' Misfortune Society, East Handed, Chechelele, Doug Eunson & Sarah Matthews, Outre Manche, Simon Heywood & Shonaleigh, Billy Martin Jnr, Triskele Sword, Clarke Buehling, Chris McMahon, Hekety, Stirrings, the Burngreave Messenger, Forged in Sheffield, Jerry Simon, Nicola Freeman, Babak Kouravand, Gav Tolan, Jo Maher, Steve Fotios, Jemma Gurney, John Brown, the Companion's Club, and all the many others who worked so hard to get the club back in business.
We had a lot of glowing feedback which tells us we're mostly doing the right thing, and we're now looking at the feasibility of continuing with more events in the Autumn.
We'll try and get news of any future gigs up here as soon as possible, along with reviews of our re-opening season.
